A Letter From the Principal

December 17, 2012

RW Community,

The end of the first-semester usually brings feelings of holiday cheer, but I write to you today with heaviness in my heart for all those affected by senseless acts of violence in Newtown, Connecticut.  It sadness me that so many young lives were taken at what should be one of the safest places – an elementary school.

As a school community, our first task is caring for our children.   This morning I walked around our building and observed happy and engaged students.  This is a reflection of our quality staff members and I want to thank them for their compassion.

Today, I’m meeting with our school’s Crisis Team to review current practices and procedures.  We feel that it is especially important this year to continue our traditional holiday celebrations. I want to thank you ahead of time for understanding that the check-in process for the Holiday Parties on Wednesday may look different from years past.  Any updated procedures will be sent by Tuesday so you will know what to expect.

Tonight after dismissal, the RW staff will come together as a family for an opportunity to support and care for one another.  I encourage you to do the same with your family - - hug your children tight and tell them how much you love them.

With Love,
Jim Brockway
