Classroom Placement for the 2013-14 School Year

Update: We recently learned that Mr. Bell has been hired as the new principal at Westview Elementary. Our entire staff is sad to see him go, but we know he is an amazing leader and it's his time to shine.  Due to this opening there may be changes to our current grade level configurations as we hire new people and assign staff members to new grade levels.  I will be sure to announce the new teams when they're finalized.

Planning for next year is beginning! The Ravenwood staff will soon start the process of placing students into classrooms for the 2013-14 school year. Each student will be carefully and conscientiously placed into an appropriate classroom for next school year. The class placement decision team consists of Mr. Brockway, Mrs. Thompson, and the grade level teachers.

Students are placed in a class with consideration of the following:
  • An even mix of boys and girls
  • An even mix of academic ability levels
  • An even mix of social/behavioral skills
  • An equivalent number of students in each class at a grade level
  • Social dynamics between students
  • Teacher style

As you can see, many variables are taken into consideration. It is quite a complex process and one the staff takes very seriously. We will do our best to provide the kind of learning environment that will help your child have a successful year.

Although we are unable to take specific teacher requests, parents have the option of providing information regarding their child’s personality and learning style that can be used during the placement process. Many of our staff members have expressed an interest in challenging themselves in a new grade level. So please keep in mind that our current teams my look a little different next year.

This information needs to be emailed to Brenda Keating by Friday, April 12.
