Crossing Guard

I am pleased to report that I have just received confirmation that there will be a new crossing guard location placed at the 121st and Clinton location serving Ravenwood Elementary starting the morning of January 22nd. I have attached an updated walking map identifying the new location. Crossing guard placement is monitored continually by the City of Olathe and placement determinations are based on priority needs compared with many location sites throughout the community. A variety of factors are considered when making these determinations. Number of pedestrians, intersection controls and traffic considerations are some key factors in the location assignments. After careful review by City of Olathe staff, it has been determined that adding a crossing guard at the 121st Street and Clinton Street location will serve to enhance safety efficiently and effectively. Safe crossing education for pedestrians and reminder messages for drivers to be cautious, alert and courteous around school locations are still very important components to an overall comprehensive safety strategy.
