On November 4th, the Olathe District AVID students (approx. 600 kids) will be gathering for their annual district event at ONW. At this gathering, these students will be assembling bags of canned goods to donate to the Mission Southside “BackSnack” program which feeds students across Olathe whose families may not be able to provide enough food for their children on the weekends.
Did you know that during the summer of 2013:
- 38,000 people were below the poverty line in Johnson County
- 25,000 homes go to bed hungry every day
- 100 students are classified as homeless
Each BackSnack that goes home with a student contains 10 items from the following list:
- milk boxes
- juice boxes
- canned meats
- canned vegetables
- hearty soup
- Mac 'n' Cheese
- peanut butter or cheese crackers
- nutritious snack or granola bars
- jelly
- cereal boxes (full size)
