Summer School Changes for 2014
Summer school for elementary and middle school students in the Olathe Public Schools will look different during the summer of 2014. Due to budget constraints and construction activities across the district, summer school will focus on effective and efficient delivery of remedial learning to support specific learners identified by teachers and administrators. Enrichment classes will not be offered during the summer of 2014. Students in need of remedial assistance will be contacted by the district and invited to attend summer school. Parents will be notified in the spring if their child meets the reading and/or math criteria to attend summer school. The district will continue to explore enrichment learning possibilities for the future. Lists of enrichment activities offered in the metro area will be identified and shared with parents through the district’s ePost online bulletin board. This change does not impact the special education Extended School Year (ESY) activities for identified students with special needs.
